Description
While there are many minute repeaters available to sophisticated watch collectors, I don't know of any that have more charm than this jump hour repeater in 18k rose gold. The "John Shaeffer" model name is given to the cushion shaped case watches from AP, and it's a perfectly sized and perfectly proportioned case at 34mm square by 9.2mm thick. What gives this watch such personality is the pairing of the quirky and seldom seen jump hour and disc display minutes with the minutes repitition. While we think our pictures come out nicely, this watch has to be seen in person to be fully enjoyed; it's a very attractive and very nice timepiece.
Let's start with the case, because it's complex. The top of the watch is brush finished, with two apertures displaying jump hours and minutes. Both windows are protected by sapphire crystals, as is the case back. The edges of the case top slope downward where they meet with the case body. The sloping sides are highly polished.Case sides are brushed. Case bottom is polished and brushed. The crown is also polished. "Audemars Piguet" is engraved on the case top. Once again, the case is cast from 18k rose gold and is 34mm square.
While there is no dial on this watch, the discs which display the hours and minutes are white enamel.
The movement is the AP Caliber 2865. As you would expect at such levels of watchmaking, the movement is hand finished, hand decorated, hand assembled and regulated at AP's ateliers. The movement is also inscribed with "Adjusted to Heat Cold and 5 Positions". Like a minute repeater should, this movement permits viewing the repeater hammer and gongs working their magic. There really is something about a repeater that's magic.
Strap is a beautiful reddish brown crocodile which complements the rose gold. Buckle is an 18k rose AP buckle.
