Description
After three years of preliminary research and prototype watches, the Richard Mille brand exploded onto the watch scene in 2001. From this watch, the RM001 - Richard Mille's first commercial timepiece, it was obvious that the brand was going to become a smashing success. What makes Richard Mille timepieces so highly regarded is that Mr. Mille brought a fresh perspective to wristwatches, after a long career in the automotive business. Richard took nothing for granted, and questioned every aspect of how watches had been designed and built. The result is a model lineup of watches that use advance materials, unique approaches to engineering that also consider the aesthetic implications of mechanical considerations, and many Richard Mille watches also feature an elite complication.

The Richard Mille RM001 tourbillon makes use of not only a power reserve indicator, but also a torque indicator. These indicators are located below, and on either side, of the 12 o'clock position. The one minute tourbillon spins around prominently at 6 o'clock. The dial is multi-layered. The arabic numerals are printed on a plate about a milimeter over the lower, black dial, upon which are mounted the tourbillon bridge and the several gear wheels visible from the front of the watch. In the right light, the numbers cast a shadow on the dial... which is cool.

The caseback features a display back and the rear of the caliber features interesting gears and bridges. The dark rear plate also has text identifying the power reserve and torque indicator, as well as making note of the 23 jewels and the positional and isochronism adjustments made to the caliber.

Case is 18k rose gold with dimensions of 45mm long by 38mm wide by 12.5mm thick. Front and display back crystals are sapphire. Case is basically a tonneau shaped, rose gold sandwich, which is secured together by four titanium screws. The screws on the horizontal axis of the case secure the watch strap. The crown is titanium with a black synthetic tire like ring for easy grasping.

This is an important wristwatch, being the first production timepiece from Richard Mille and a tourbillon. Watch is new old stock with box and papers.
