Description
This vintage Patek Philippe reference 437 is interesting in so many ways. The Extract From the Archives notes that the movement was made in 1929 and encased in 1936. There is an engraving on the caseback which reads: "J.E; XIX - VI; MCMXXXVII". I can not interepret the significance of the first two lines of the inscription, but the roman numeral date is 1937, and apparently the watch was given as a gift in 1937.

The original case is stainless steel and 28mm in diameter. The original dustcover and original caseback are, like the main watch case, in mint condition. Original oversized winding crown.

The original gilt movement is also in mint condition. The manual winding movement carries the number 821773.

The original dial is very interesting and compelling. The printed arabic numerals are set off by the outlined numbers '12', '3' and '9'. The minutes chapter is railroad style. The subsidiary seconds dial features a sunken center with concentric guilloche. The original sword style hands are perfectly blued, as is the seconds hand. With so many interest characteristics already, it would seem impossible for the dial to be any cooler... but it gets better -- the dial finish is very glossy, almost to the point of having a mirror effect. This wonderful dial, along with the rest of the watch, is all original and mint.

Strap is fine leather with a new old stock vintage Patek steel buckle.

Watch will be delivered with the Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives.
