Description
This is an exceedingly rare wristwatch with more wrist presence than you could imagine. Skeletonized watches are great to begin with, but combine the skeletonization with the double ellipse case and the spinning balance wheel/tourbillon assembly and you have a watch you will definitely not want to take off. And, depending on your mood, this watch can serve as a conversation started par excellence.

Let's start with the case, since I think that Daniel Roth's signature Double Ellipse case is one of the industry's most attractive designs. This case is 18k white gold with dimensions of 38.5mm long (not including lugs) by 33mm wide by 11mm thick. Front and rear sapphire crystals permit viewing the caliber in great detail. While this case shape looks great, it's style is overshadowed only by its comfort.

The movement is the Daniel Roth manually winding Caliber DR 307 with 19 jewels, 45 hour power reserve, and beating at 18,000 vibrations per hour. Of course, the real story with this caliber is the hand skeletonization and decoration. The movement has great depth, and most parts are visible working from both the front and back of the watch. The combination of the rhodium plated bridges and gold colored wheels is complemented by the rubies and blued hands to marvelous effect.

There is no dial in the conventional sense of the word. The time is displayed inside the uppermost ring on the front of the watch. The blued hour and minutes hands are arrow tipped, which improves readability. The tourbillon and balance wheel assembly are placed underneath the time, and thanks to a slender sword style appendage from the toubillon cage the seconds can be measured accurately. On the back side of the watch, there is a date display and power reserve indication.

This important wristwatch was produced in the late 1990s and is in mint++ condition. Strap and 18k white gold buckle are original Daniel Roth.
