Description
This watch weighs an astounding 9.5 ounces! This is the discontinued first generation Audemars Piguet Royal Oak chronograph in solid gold. The aphorism "they don't make them like they used to" is certainly true in this case. Consider that the links on this watch are 3.3mm thick whereas the links on the current version of this watch are a "mere" 2.8mm thick. That adds up to a big difference extrapolated over all 21 links. The case is also beefier than the current version.
Case is solid 18k yellow gold with the characteristic octagonal bezel, angular main body and screw down chronograph pushers and crown. Sapphire crystal. Fantastic integral bracelet with thick lugs and safety button clasp system. I don't think I have ever handled a more robust watch than this: even Panerai lovers will admire the heft and solidness of this elite chronograph. Diameter = 40mm; thickness = 13mm.
Dial is black with the classical Royal Oak "Clous de Paris" pattern. This first generation dial features very bright white (and consequently legible) hands and markers. Chronograph totalizer subdials for 30 minutes and 12 hours. Date.
Movement is the elite, Audemars Piguet automatic winding chronograph Caliber 2385 with solid gold winding rotor, 37 jewels, 40 hour power reserve and beating at 21,600 beats per hour.
Bracelet will fit up an 8 inch wrist comfortably.
Condition of this watch is mint plus, as new really except for a very few almost imperceptible surface marks, and will be delivered with box and documents.
