Description
The 1999 reintroduction of Breguet's famous Transatlantique was a big success. Vintage collectors knew about the original, early 20th Century Breguet Transatlantique, but the watches were impossible to find. Now all of a sudden a brand new version became available with the same great styling as its predecessor. The Type XX pilot's watches are Breguet's most popular model. This titanium model is such a comfortable watch compared with the more common steel version.
The Breguet Transatlantique is powered by the automatic winding Breguet Caliber 582 Q which is actually the high-end Lemania caliber 1352 which has been customized in the Breguet ateliers. Automatic winding, integrated chronograph caliber, hand-adjusted with date.
Dial is carbon fibre black/grey with luminous hands, arabic numerals and hour markers. Interestingly, the minutes totalizer for the chronograph is laid out in 2 minute divisions, and counts up to 30 minutes. The 12 hour totalizer is at 6 o'clock. Bezel turns to track elapsed time (bi-directional).
The light weight titanium case is the highlight of this watch for me. The case sides feature vertical channelling, the sapphire crystal is domed. Water resistant to 100 meters. Fit and finish are exemplary. Titanium bracelet will fit an 8 inch wrist comfortably. Serial number is engraved on the caseback. 39mm diameter by 14mm thick.
