Description
Here is an interesting and all original vintage Tudor Prince Date from circa 1971 with rare original California dial and Rolex signed case back and crown. Other watch brands have offered these so called California dials, but no one else can really pull off the symmetry of the roman and arabic numerals except for Tudor. They get it just right. This dial also has a nice patina.

Possessing more than just a passing resemblance to its more famous cousin, the Rolex Explorer, this Tudor trumps the Explorer in my opinion, thanks to the California dial and the date, which the Explorer glaringly lacks.

Original stainless steel case measures 34mm in diameter by 10.5mm thick. Smooth bezel. Acrylic crystal. Screw down crown. Inside case back is engraved with the boilerplate Tudor text plus the model code 74000. Between the lugs is another model number (apparently): 75204.
Watch case is in mint plus condition and appears never to have been polished.
Crown has the Rolex coronet and caseback is signed “Original Oyster Case by Rolex Geneva” and has the Rolex coronet engraved.

Original black dial, as mentioned, features the combination of roman and Arabic numbers also known as a California dial. The hour hand is a Mercedes hand, another similarity to its Rolex cousin. The luminous on the dial and hands has a pleasing patina. The dial is 100% original and untouched.

Movement is the automatic winding ETA 2824-2 with 25 jewels. Movement is engraved “AUTO-PRINCE” and the rotor is engraved TUDOR. Rolex/Tudor ordered movements from ETA with proprietary upgrades from the standard ebauche.

Watch is being sold on a new Shell Cordovan strap with steel tang buckle.
