Description
The reference 1655, the so called Steve McQueen and “Orange Hand”, is the first Explorer II. The early watches, of which this is an example, have a straight (no dot on it) seconds hand and are much rarer than the later pieces. In fact, this watch was made in 1971, the first year that the reference 1655 was produced. This watch is in mint and all original condition.
Stainless steel case measures 38mm in diameter by 13.5mm thick. Case features an acrylic crystal, screw down crown (operating as it should) and original bezel with engraved 24 hour scale. Serial number 2920XXX dates production to 1971 and the inside case back is stamped II.71 for second quarter 1971.
Movement is the automatic winding Rolex Caliber 1570 with 26 jewels and adjusted to 5 positions and temperature. This movement is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer.
Dial is 100% original and untouched and has nice, light and even patina on the markers and original hands. Again, this early 1655 has the straight seconds hand. The original dial and hands used on Explorer II 1655s are unique to this reference number, and give the watch a distinctive appearance in the world of Rolex watches.
Bracelet is the Rolex Oyster reference 78360 with 13 links (full length) and non flip-lock clasp.
Watch is in overall mint condition (bracelet is in perfect condition) and is guaranteed original and authentic. The straight seconds hand Explorer II is quite rare, and we believe this watch is priced to sell.
