Description
Here is an excellent condition reference 1019 Rolex Milgauss from 1979, unworn since its April 2008 Rolex factory service (service document and service box included). I don't need to tell you that an original vintage Milgauss is a prized possession for any Rolex collector. This watch is the predecessor of the current and popular reference 116400 Milgauss.
The reference 1019 Milgauss has the Rolex automatic caliber 1580 with 26 jewels beating inside. It's a slower beating movement, which you can see by the action of the seconds hand. The Milgauss was manufactured by Rolex to be an antimagnetic watch for use by scientists and anyone else who needed a shielded watch.
Original stainless steel case is 38mm diameter by approximately 12mm tall. Crystal is the mineral glass type used by Rolex in the 1970s, giving the watch a high, and frankly handsome, profile. The case has a very attractive symmetry and roundness to it. It's sleek and quite sporty.
The Rolex Oyster bracelet reference 78360 is in great shape and has 12 links.
The original, untouched dial is very nice. The hour markers are applied bars which are long and high; the hands are polished (they almost look chromed) and fatter than the modern style hands, while the seconds hand has a red arrow at the end. The hands provide absolutely excellent legibility. The red ‘MILGAUSS’ is a great design touch that adds a lot of pizzazz to the look of this watch.
This watch is all original and in excellent, mint+ condition (as you would expect after a Rolex service).
