Description
It was in 1923 that the London Stock Exchange received its own Coat of Arms which includes the motto “Dictum Meum Pactum” which, translated from the Latin, reads “My Word is My Bond”. The case back of this watch has the London Stock Exchange Coat of Arms engraved on it with the motto in English. It is reasonable to conclude that this vintage Patek Philippe Calatrava reference 2552J once belonged to a seated member of the London Stock Exchange.
Original case is 18k yellow gold with 36mm diameter and 9.9mm thick. Case also features a large crown with the back to back “PP” Patek logo from the 1950s. Crystal is domed acrylic. Case back is a screw back, which was an early and successful pass at significantly reducing dirt, humidity and water intrusion into the case.
Original dial is matte silver in color with applied golden hour markers and dauphine hands. The minute track is embossed. Subsidiary seconds chapter at 6 o’clock.
Original movement is the automatic winding Patek Philippe Caliber 12-600 AT and is in perfect condition. Movement features a beautifully decorated 18k winding rotor (see picture below), 30 jewels, is stamped with the Geneva Seal and is adjusted to 5 positions, heat, cold and isochronism.
Bracelet is a solid 18k gold Patek Philippe grains of rice style with fold over clasp and will fit up to a 7 inch wrist. Watch is in overall very good condition and the movement is in perfect working and cosmetic condition.
