Description
The Explorer II reference 1655, the so called Steve McQueen model, has a unique appearance. No other Rolex before or afterward look like it. The orange 24 hand and the brush finished engraved 24 hour bezel are unique to this model. In the whole range of vintage Rolex watches, no model sells more quickly than this one. They are relatively affordable too, and make great everyday watches.
This is a second series reference 1655 with the original tritium dial and hands and dates to circa 1972/73.
Original stainless steel case measures 38mm diameter by 14mm thick. The bezel has an engraved and brush finished 24 hour scale with black numbers. Screw down crown is operating perfectly. Acrylic crystal with cyclops. The case condition is original but shows wear.
Original dial and second series hands are in perfect condition. Only slightly patinaed, the luminous is more white than most original dials from the same period. Once again, this dial is original and untouched.
Original movement is the automatic winding Rolex caliber 1570 with 26 jewels, adjusted to five positions and temperature. This movement is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer. Movement is shiny clean running strongly.
Bracelet is a Rolex Oyster bracelet reference 78360 with # 580 end links and non flip lock clasp. Bracelet has 12 links. Bracelet is in mint condition.
