Description
Jaeger LeCoultre (JLC) is like the little engine that could, except that it’s an elite Swiss manufacture. So what do I mean by the little engine simile? It’s that JLC makes first quality premier manufacture timepieces, on par with Patek Philippe, Breguet, Audemars Piguet and Germany’s A. Lange & Sohne, but for some reason JLC has not enjoyed the same rarified-air aura as these other brands. I’ll tell you straight away that it is a slight to the folks at Jaeger LeCoultre that they are not exalted along with their quality peers (there, I said it). JLC is one of the Swiss Kings, and the quality and breadth of their production proves it!

Consider this Master Tourbillon in its 41.5mm red gold case. Like all of the watches in the Master collection, it has been tested for 1000 hours, across a rigorous spectrum of timekeeping and positional tests. It literally is a Master timekeeper. You’d think JLC would pump this 1000 Hour quality standard a little… C.O.S.C. who, you ask? Exactly. Maybe JLC needs some marketing help…

In addition to being a tourbillon – one of the most cherished complications available in a watch, the 24 hour subdial also serves as “hometime”, since the 12 hour hand can be advanced in one hour increments independently of the 24 hour hand. In addition, the date is indicated by the red-tipped centrally mounted hand against the date scale at the dial’s periphery. Note that the ‘15’ and ‘16’ are not adjacent to each other like the other numbers in the series. The date hand makes an athletic leap across the gap at the indicated time – a small monthly treat for it’s owner.

The watch case is 18k red gold, again with 41.5mm diameter and 12.8mm thick. Front and back sapphire crystals. Extremely clean case lines and entirely mirror finished.

Dial is silver with applied hour markers. Tourbillon is visible in the dial cut-away. The tourbillon cage features a blued seconds hand. The 24 hour subdial features a two patterned guilloche background and is traced in red gold. These details give the dial away as being of the highest quality.

Movement is the automatic winding Jaeger LeCoultre Caliber 978 with 302 individual parts, beating at 28,800 vibrations per hour, with 48 hour power reserve, 33 jewels and beautifully designed and finished 22k winding rotor. The extra dense 22k gold ensures efficient winding power.

Strap is dark brown JLC crocodile with 18k red gold JLC deployant clasp.
Watch is new with box and papers. US Retail Price is $58,200.
