Description
Patek Philippe introduced the chronograph and perpetual calendar pairing with their reference 1518, which was followed by this reference 2499, which in turn was followed by the long production run 3970 and finally by the current reference 5970. All are wonderful and beautiful watches. Not surprisingly, the earlier incarnations of the perpetual calendar chronographs are the most valuable.

The reference 2499 production was only 349 watches. The vast majority of these watches have been permanently retired by collectors, and it is no surprise that the 2499 is an extremely sought after watch.

This particular watch dates to 1970 and was sold in 1971. The 18k yellow gold case measures 37.5mm in diameter by 13.7mm thick. When evaluating a reference 2499, it is critical to examine the lugs which are stepped. When these cases left the factory, the step was crisp and sharp. Many 2499s have been polished over the years to the point where the step is only barely discernable. The step on the lugs of this watch are as perfect as the day this watch left the factory, which can be seen in the series of high definition pictures below. The case also has a domed acrylic crystal, round "pump" chronograph pushers and large 18k winding crown. The case back has a light engraving, which depending on the buyer's preference, can be left intact or buffed out.

Dial is 100% untouched and perfect. Silver in color and with golden applied hour markers and leaf (also known as feuille) style hands, the dial also has apertures for displaying the Day and Date below the 12 o'clock; subdial at 3 o'clock displays chronograph elapsed minutes; subdial at 6 o'clock displays moon phase and date; subdial at 9 o'clock displays the seconds.

Movement is the manual winding Patek Philippe Caliber 13 with 23 jewels and is stamped twice with the Geneva Seal.

This watch is in mint++ original condition and will be delivered with Extract from the Archives and Patek box.
