Description
When is a splash or red worth (much) more than its weight in gold? When it says SUBMARINER on the dial of a vintage Rolex Submariner reference 1680, that’s when. And it’s worth it, too. That splash of red on the dial makes the whole watch stand out. A genuine, authentic “Red” Submariner is a great watch and this watch is in all original mint condition.
Serial number 2571XXX dates production to 1970. Inside case back has a date stamp of I.70 which is consistent with the serial number.
Original case is stainless steel with dimensions of 40mm by 13.9mm thick. Crystal is acrylic. Screw down “Trip Lock” crown is original and working smoothly. This case has its full metal – fat and even lugs, and is in mint original condition. Bezel rotates smoothly. Insert is original.
Original dial is black with luminous tritium hour markers and hands. The dial has not faded (and is original, not a replacement dial) and is still crisp and sharp with the white markers. Of course, the highlight of the dial is the red “SUBMARINER”. Date at 3 o’clock.
Original movement is an automatic winding Rolex Caliber with 26 jewels and adjusted to five positions and temperature. This movement is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer. Movement is immaculately clean and running strong. As collectors know, this is the first Submariner to have the date feature.
