Description
We do not usually offer Panerai watches. Not that we aren’t closet Paneraioholics, but you can only specialize in so much, and with the explosion in popularity of Panerai watches over the past decade and the ever increasing model line up, we usually pass on buying and selling Panerais.
We couldn’t pass on this Marina Militare aka PAM217 Destro (destroy means that the crown is on the left side of the case). You will know why when you see it – just gorgeous in all ways. Rare, too. Panerai only made 1000 watches and this is about as rare of a modern production Panerai that you will find.
The stainless steel case on this BEAST is 47mm in width, not including the crown assembly. Massively thick and domed sapphire crystal. Sapphire display back crystal. Water resistant to 100 meters. You can not sufficiently appreciate just how nice a Panerai watch case is, until you own and wear one for a while. Not that a 47mm case can ever really be subtle, but the attention to detail and the fit and finish is outstanding.
Dial is black and is a “sandwich” style dial, meaning that there is a luminous layer below the dial’s surface, and the dial has the numbers and hour markers literally cut out. The hands have generous luminous too, and a Panerai lights up like no other watch. There is a subsidiary seconds dial at 3 o’clock.
Movement is the manually winding OP6645 Caliber, which is tastefully finished and functionally decorated. This 17 jewel movement beats at 21,600 vibrations per hour and is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer.
Watch is running strong and the crown protector operates perfectly with the tightness you would expect from such a security apparatus. Condition is excellent, and the dial is perfect. Original Panerai strap and buckle show some light wear. Watch has box and papers. |
