There are vintage Calatravas and then there are vintage Calatravas. This Calatrava falls into the latter category. At 35.5mm diameter (43.7mm including the lugs and 8mm thin), this was an oversized gentleman’s wristwatch when it was first sold back in 1954/55. This particular watch is a rarity in that it will be delivered with original Patek box and certificate of origin.
The 18k yellow gold case is all original and in very good condition. Case back has “A. Edgar Aub; Cincinnati/OHIO” engraved.
Dial is matte silver and has taken on a champagne color as it gracefully ages. Dial has applied golden hour markers and dauphine hands and subsidiary seconds dial with concentric guilloche decoration. Dial has some age related imperfections, but nothing serious or in the least bit distracting. Of course, the dial is 100% original as are the hands.
Movement is the manual winding Patek Philippe Caliber 12”” with 18 jewels and stamped with the Geneva Seal. Movement is operating strongly and winding smoothly. Movement is adjusted for heat, cold, isochronism and in 5 positions and features a swan neck micrometer regulator.
Strap is a vintage reptile skin brown Patek strap with vintage 18k yellow gold Patek tang buckle.
