Description
Wow, this vintage Rolex Submariner reference 5513 literally has it all. The original and untouched gilt gloss dial is truly beautiful. The “meters first” configuration is the most rare and desirable. But, as with all things, it’s not just the individual characteristics of this dial that make it special, it’s the gestalt: this is simply the nicest 5513 dial I think I have ever seen.

This 5513 will be delivered with its original inner and outer box (‘5513’ sticker still on outer box), original rose gold colored Submariner anchor, original green Rolex documents billfold, original Guarantee Certificate dated September 20, 1965, original green “Submariner 200” product card (“Use box for cigarettes…”) and a note from the original owner dated November 20, 2009 telling of how he purchased the watch at the US Marine Corp. post exchange at Camp Hansen in Okinawa. Further, the note mentions that the original owner wore the watch for several years post his military service and then retired it to a drawer, where it sat until he sold it to us in November.

In my opinion, this is the most singularly collectable 5513 we have ever offered.

Original stainless steel case measures 39mm diameter by 15mm thick. The crystal is domed acrylic and the original screw down crown is operating smoothly. The original bezel still turns smoothly and has very sharp edges. The original bezel insert shows some wear. The case displays some signs of wear along with its original case finish and shoulder bevels.

Original movement is the automatically winding Rolex Caliber 1530 with 26 jewels. The movement is in pristine condition. Inside case back is stamped III.64 indicating that it was assembled in the factory in the third quarter of 1964. Serial number 1071XXX supports the 1964 production.

Original dial is, as mentioned above, exquisite. The condition is perfect. The luminous has attained an even and rich patina. If there were a Rolex Dial Museum, this dial would be there.

Original bracelet is riveted Oyster with 11 links. Clasp is date stamped January 1965. Bracelet shows some wear and has light stretch.

We reserve the right to come to our senses and retire this watch from being available at any time…
