Description
The Rolex "Double Red" Sea-Dweller is an iconic watch, which, of course, is all about the dial. Happily, the dial on this watch is in perfect condition. This is a so called Mark IV dial, which is correct for the 1975 production, and the condition is perfect, untouched, guaranteed original.
The original stainless steel case measures 40mm diameter by 16.8mm thick. The crystal is highly domed acrylic and is very clean. The massive screw down Triplock crown is operating perfectly. The original bezel insert has faded to a very pleasing grey. The original bezel maintains its sharp edge, and rotates with the perfect amount of resistance. Overall case condition is very good. The case appears to never have been polished, as the original shoulder bevels are still present. The lugs are fat and uniform. Bracelet is Oyster reference 93150 with 580 end pieces. Bracelet has marks from wear, but no stretch, and contains 12 links (full links).
Serial number 4205XXX is engraved on the inside of the case back and on the case.
Original movement is the automatically winding Rolex Caliber 1570 with 26 jewels, adjusted to 5 positions and temperature, and is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer. The movement is pristine and running strong. In my opinion, the Rolex Caliber 15XX movements are the best serially produced movements by any manufacture, ever. These movements are known to keep chronometer accuracy time for decades without so much as a service.
Original dial is the aforementioned Mark IV Double Red dial in mint plus, untouched condition. Dial is black in color, with large luminous hour markers, with the famous red print for "SEA-DWELLER" and "SUBMARINER 2000", and date window at 3 o'clock. Classic, desirable, rare and valuable... and beautiful!
Watch will be delivered with box, Rolex wallet, date card, "Translation of the Original Document" and "Official Chronometer Certification" information documents.
