While I am not suggesting someone purchase a watch solely for the movement inside, let’s just say in this watch’s case (pun intended) it would be an understandable decision. The good news is that Patek Philippe gave prospective owners of this watch many more good reasons to purchase it than just the automatically winding Caliber 28-255 C. Take for example the original Patek 18k mesh bracelet and the original dial with applied hour markers and hands with inlaid onyx and date. Ah, this is a nice watch at a great price – a no regrets watch that will make you happy whether you are a watch collector or just want one really nice watch to wear everyday.
Original case is 18k yellow gold with alternating brushed and polished surfaces. Bezel is polished, while the main case body and flat part of the case back are brushed. The edge of the case back is polished. This is the watch’s original finish. The case is two parts – snap back and case body which also incorporates the bezel and crystal. The crystal is sapphire. The case is stepped, meaning the bezel is elevated from the main case body. The original crown recesses into the case. Case measures 33mm diameter by 7.8mm thick.
Original movement is the automatically winding Patek Philippe Caliber 28-255C. In fact, this movement is so nice that even if you don’t know a thing about watches, you can tell just by looking at it that this is a really nice watch. I mean who would design such a beautiful machine if it weren’t going inside something special? The technical details of this movement are: rhodium plating; 36 jewels; Gyromax balance; balance adjusted to heat, cold, isochronism and 5 positions; self compensating free-sprung balance; and stamped with the Geneva Seal. The movement is in perfect condition and is operating strongly.
Original dial is silvered, almost white, with applied hour markers and hands, both of which have onyx inlaid. The date window is framed in gold.
The original, integral mesh bracelet, is 18k yellow gold and will fit up to an 8 inch wrist.
This watch is in mint plus condition and will make a beautiful daily wear watch for the lucky new owner.
