Question: When is the last time that you saw an original reference 6239 GOLD Paul Newman Daytona?
Answer: Never.
Let’s have some perspective here: 100% original vintage Rolex Cosmograph Daytona chronographs are rare. The versions with original “Paul Newman” dials are even rarer. A handful of the reference 6239 chronos in stainless steel have Paul Newman dials, but you NEVER see a GOLD 6239 with Paul Newman dial. In fact, when the seller told us it was a 6239 we had to pop the bracelet off to see the ‘6239” model number with our own eyes. And here it is… a genuine rarity and amazingly beautiful!
Original case is 18k yellow gold with dimensions of 37mm diameter by 13.5mm thick. Plastic crystal. The original bezel with engraved Units per Hour scale is in mint condition. The screw down crown is operating perfectly, as are the round pump style chronograph pushers. The case is in very clean and mint condition and the lugs are thick and uniform and the case edges are crisp.
Serial number is 2330XXX white dates production to 1969. Inside case back is engraved ‘6239’.
Original movement is the manual winding Rolex Caliber 722 with 17 jewels and adjusted to three positions. The movement features column wheel chronograph construction. Movement is in immaculate condition and running strong.
Original “Paul Newman” dial is creamy gold color with contrasting black subdials and peripheral minutes and seconds chapter. Applied hour markers. The subdials step down and feature concentric guilloche. The subdials provide 30 minute and 12 hour chronograph totalizers and running seconds. The dial is in mint untouched original condition. This style dial, when it was offered by Rolex, was known as the “Exotic” dial.
Bracelet is 18k Rolex Oyster with folded links. The bracelet has 12 links and is in mint to mint plus condition with zero stretch.
This is a rare vintage Rolex and is guaranteed to be 100% original and authentic.
