Description
The Breitling Navitimer Cosmonaute chronograph is one of the very few iconic watches that launched an entirely new generation of watch enthousiats and collectors around the world. In fact, if a watch has ever attained cult status, the Cosmonaute is one of them.
The Navitimer Cosmonaute was introduced over half a century ago when Breitling became one of the leading manufactures to supply professionals in the field of aviation with precision instruments meeting specific needs during flight. The introduction of the 24-hour dial, slide-rule for calculations during flight, ease of legibility, chronograph feature became standards by which other pilots watches would be measured, even to this day!
This gorgeous and important chronograph has changed very little from prior versions with the exception of the movement which is automatic in this case. The massive and beautifully finished steel case measures 41.5 mm in diameter by 14.5 mm thick and is in mint condition. The solid caseback is engraved with a conversion scale for celcius/fahrenheit units. The narrow Bezel is a rotating slide rule for calculations. The chronograph pushers are pump style which are based on the original version.
Dial is black with silver sub dials at the 3,6 and 9' clock position. The outer dial, which is actually an inner computing bezel, is silver and integrated with the steel bezel and sapphire crystal; basically by turning the bezel you're also turning the inner dial and the crystal. Speaking of which, Breitling has long been known for (and appreciated!) their incredible anti-reflective coating on their watch crystals which basically makes the glass just about invisible, exposing the dial in ints entirety without any glare or distraction, a key factor for pilots. Again, the dial is the 24-hour version with arabics applied in a very strong lume.
Movement is the Breitling caliber 22 with date and flyback function. It is in fine condition keeping excellent time. Chronograph works as it should.
The 22 mm strap is black crocodile with a Breitling steel tang buckle. It has been gently worn and is slightly creased but is free of any stains or other imperfections. Watch will be delivered with Breitling box. Watch is in mint+ condition and great with any type of attire.
