Description
The reference 5050 is often confused with the still-in-production reference 5059. Both are perpetual calendars with retrograde date, however, the 5050 is much rarer. Very few reference 5050s were produced in platinum. What’s more, is that the dial on this watch is quite rare. The majority of 5050P dials have roman numerals whereas the dial on this watch has the simple applied indices. The 5050 in platinum was the first Patek Philippe perpetual calendar to break north of $100,000 (and it kept going). Get it now – as new with box and papers – for its price from 5 years ago.

Case is polished 950 platinum with dimensions of 35.5mm diameter by 11.5mm thick. This case has very clean, traditional lines and is free of any design embellishments. The front crystal is slightly domed sapphire and the display back crystal is flat sapphire.

Dial is a solid gold and silver plated. The silver dial color and platinum case are very stealthy, but there is a richness exuded which is as subtle as it is tasteful. The white gold hour markers are applied. The leaf style hands are also white gold. The date is displayed on the retrograde scale which traverses the arc from 8 o'clock to 4 o'clock. Day is displayed in the aperture at 9 o'clock, leap year in the aperture under 12 o'clock, and month in the 3 o'clock aperture. Moonphase is displayed in the 6 o'clock subdial.

Movement is the automatic winding Patek Philippe Caliber 315/136 with 31 jewels, beating at 21,600 vibrations per hour, a 21k winding rotor, 46 hour power reserve and the Geneva Seal attestetation of superiority.
Strap is a Patek Philippe hand-sewn black crocodile with platinum Patek tang buckle.

Watch is in mint ++ condition... imagine you bought it at the Patek boutique late Saturday morning and went for a coffee at Starbucks to admire it. By the time you leave, it would look exactly like this watch does... mint++.
