Description
The Rolex GMT Master II is my favorite Rolex sports watch. It does everything you can ask of a watch: keeps chronometer-grade time, is water resistant to 100 meters, looks great, can take a real beating, tracks a second timezone and will accompany you throughout your life.
The GMT Master was developed in the 1950s for PanAm pilots, who needed a watch that allowed them to view both local time and UTC (or GMT) time in 24 hour format, at a glance. The GMT Master quickly became a favorite among both professional pilots and astronauts alike.
Case is stainless steel with dimensions of 40mm diameter by 12mm thick. 24 hour bezel turns in both directions and is used in conjunction with the red, arrow-tipped hand which revolves once around the dial during a 24 hour period, to allow tracking a second timezone. Screw down crown and sapphire crystal ensure water resistance to 100 meters. This is an F series watch from 2004/5 and is still in new condition.
Dial is black with applied hour markers which are coated in luminous, as are the hands. Date at 3 o'clock. Movement is the automatic winding Rolex Caliber 3185, which features 31 jewels, a free sprung Breguet balance and is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer.
Rolex Oyster bracelet with 13 links and a flip-lock security clasp.
Watch is new with box and some documents (the original certificate is not available). US Retail is $5075. This reference GMT has been discontinued.
