Description
The Jour et Nuit is a limited edition of only 99 watches that F.P. Journe produced in 2002. The platinum case and ruthenium grey dial make a strikingly attractive pair. This watch is indiscernible from new with box and papers.
F.P. Journe is, in my opinion, the Abraham Louis Breguet of our generation. His mastery of esoteric complications and his signature aesthetic with the eccentrically positioned time displays on his dials set him apart from every other current watchmaker/watch designer.
The solid platinum case measures 40mm diameter by 11mm thick. The front and display back crystals are sapphire. The case lines are simple and modern, with a broad bezel and broad lugs which curve downward toward their ends. The crown is Journe’s signature crown with the knurled edge and two engraved dots. The entire case has a polished finish.
Dial is ruthenium plated gold, grey in color. Note the off-center time display adjacent to 3 o’clock with an intersecting subsidiary seconds dial. Note also how the time display is a plate that is screwed onto the dial. Near 7 o’clock is an aperture that displays AM/PM or, as the watch is called “Jour et Nuit” (day and night) by means of a dark blue wheel with golden moon, sun and stars. There is also an outsized date display near 11 o’clock. Finally, there is a power reserve display arching from about the 8 o’clock to 10 o’clock positions.
Movement is the F.P. Journe handmade Caliber 1300 with 30 jewels. Like the dial, the plates of the movement have also been ruthenium plated. Incredibly, the power reserve of this caliber is 120 hours. The winding rotor is 22k gold with hand engraved guilloche. The movement is adjusted in five positions and is engraved “EXCLUSIVE POWER RESERVE SYSTEM” and “PRECISION CHRONOMETER”.
Watch is on a hand-sewn black Journe crocodile strap with 18k white gold Journe deployant clasp.
This highly collectable and beautiful limited edition platinum watch is pre-owned but absolutely unworn and complete box and papers set including a Journe loupe, polishing cloth and a certificate that is personally signed by F.P. Journe.
