Description
The World of Watches is enormous, from cheap plastic digital watches to Haute Horology Grand Complications and everything in between. I have to say, a vintage Rolex Cosmograph Daytona might be the perfect watch, when all is said and done. It’s certainly the archetypal chronograph aesthetically, and it wears as comfortably as if it were a mere hologram. And I dare say, at the prices levels of 2010, a vintage Daytona may also be an excellent investment.

This 6264 right here has the nicest silver dial that we have ever seen. The subdials have faded in color from the original black to a rich and uniform chocolate brown. This effect in vintage watch speak, when a black dial or subdial changes from black to brown, is called “tropical”. Collectors can call this effect whatever they want; the fact is, these chocolate brown subdials on the original silver dial makes this dial outstandingly beautiful.

Original stainless steel case measures 37.5mm diameter by 13mm thick. The crystal is acrylic. The original bezel is clean and with sharp edges. The original bezel insert is also clean and mint with Units per Hour scale from ‘50’ to ‘200’. The original screw down crown and round pump style chronograph pushers are working as they should and the chronograph hands reset accurately and crisply to their zero positions. Case is in mint original condition.

Serial number 2750XXX dates production to 1970.

Original silver dial, as discussed above, has applied hour markers, brown subdials which are sunken and have concentric guilloche. The dial itself has a light radial brushed pattern. The dial is in mint to mint+ condition.

Original movement is the manual winding Rolex Caliber 727 with 17 jewels and is adjusted in 3 positions. The movement features column wheel construction and is immaculately clean. It’s running great as well.

Bracelet is the folded Rolex Oyster reference 7835 with ‘357’ end links and has 11 links and is in excellent to mint condition.
