Description
The Patek Philippe '96' is the first Patek to have a model number. This example has the earliest known serial number in this reference. Thus one can conclude, that this is the earliest known Patek Philippe watch with a reference number. It is also only one of two white gold reference 96 watches known to exist. Patek manufactured this watch in 1928 and it has survived to this day in remarkably good, 100% original condition.
Case is 31mm diameter with acrylic crystal and snap back. It has the simple case lines that make the reference 96 a model of simple elegance. Of course, the highlights of the case are that it is 18k white gold and the fact that the case has a serial number (engraved on the inner case back). This historic case is in clean, mint condition.
Dial is matte silver with raised white gold index style hour markers (mentioned on the Extract that accompanies the watch) with a double marker at 12 o’clock. The original hands are sword style and blued, as is the original hand for the subsidiary seconds dial. The subsidiary seconds dial mimics the main dial with its own miniature markers, including the double marker at the 12 o’clock position. As the dial notes, this watch was retailed by Eberhard in Milan Italy.
Movement is the manual winding Patek Philippe Caliber 12’’’ with 18 jewels and swan neck regulator.
This is a genuinely important and historic Patek Philippe and will be delivered with its Extract from the Archives.
