Description
This near mint, never polished vintage Rolex Submariner reference 16800 is complete with original box and papers. The 16800 is a transitional model Submariner, which introduced the 1000 foot depth rating, Caliber 3035 movement with quick set date, sapphire crystal and dial with white gold rings around the hour markers.
Serial number 8462XXX dates production to 1987.
Original black matte dial on this watch is untouched, and is the earlier and much more collectable 16800 dial absent the rings around the hour markers. In other words, even though this watch is a relatively modern Submariner, its dial has throwback looks to the earlier models. This dial is in perfect condition and presents the date display at 3 o’clock. Original hands are a little dirty but fine.
Original movement is the automatic winding Rolex Caliber 3035 with 27 jewels and adjusted to 5 positions and temperature. This is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer movement. Quick set date (first time on a Submariner). Movement is running well.
Original case is never polished, near mint, and still has the sharp factory case edges. Sapphire crystal (first time on a Submariner). Screw down Triplock crown. Original bezel turns as it should. The bezel insert is mostly clean. The pearl has heavy patina and I’m not sure it’s original. Case measures 40mm diameter by 12.7mm thick.
Rolex 93150 bracelet with ‘593’ endlinks and fold-over clasp. Bracelet is near mint.
