Description
I am excited by this watch! It is really, really nice. Rolex is normally quite conservative with their designs, but they have added just the right amount of panache to this Daytona to make it as exciting visually as it is technically.
Dial is silver with applied black Arabic numerals and abundant red highights that make it extra-sporty. The 18kt white gold case and bracelet have a luster that the normal stainless steel simply does not (and this luster only improves with wear -- the metal takes on such a warm hue after being worn for years), and also provides a pleasing heft, making it more pleasing than a steel Daytona.
Technically, the Rolex Caliber 4130, is a marvel. Rolex constructed a 44 jewel caliber with extra-efficient automatic winding and a long 72 hour power reserve. Also, the caliber makes use of a "free sprung" balance system and microstella adjustment screws for extra-fine regulation. The caliber is a C.O.S.C. certified chronometer.
Case is 40mm diameter by 12.8mm thick, and features a sapphire crystal, screw-down chronograph pushers, a tachymeter scale on the bezel and is water resistant to 100 meters.
This watch is brilliant, and can easily serve as a collection of one.
