Description
The Rolex reference 6238 is the last in a long series of Rolex chronographs that led up to the Daytona, and is known as the "Pre-Daytona". The reference 6238 was the last Rolex chronograph to feature the tachometer scale on the dial (versus on the bezel on the Daytonas). It was also the last Rolex chronograph to feature a one color dial, versus the contrasting color subdials on a Daytona. The 6238 was presented in Rolex catalogs between 1964 and 1967 only. The case number 10767XX dates production of this watch to 1964.
Case is stainless steel with a diameter of 35mm and domed acrylic crystal. Round pump style chronograph pushers and screw-down crown. Another collectable aspect of the 6238 is that this is the last Rolex chronograph to have a smooth non-engraved bezel.
Dial is silver with non-contrasting silver subdials. The subdials are sunken and have concentric guilloche. Dial and hands are 100% original, untouched and in near mint condition.
Movement is the manual winding Rolex chronograph Caliber 72B with 17 jewels, adjusted in 3 positions, and has column wheel construction. The movement is clean and running.
Bracelet is a USA made Rolex Jubilee with the rounded links, in excellent clean condition with mild stretch, and will fit up to a 7 inch wrist.
