Description
Collectors are always after the unusual, the "diamond in the rough" as it were. The Daytona reference 16528 is rare, and this first edition ‘R’ serial number 16528 with the floating Cosmograph dial is a collector’s "grail" watch.
Case is solid 18k yellow gold with sapphire crystal, screw down crown and chronograph pushers, and bezel with engraved "Units per Hour" scale. Note that this bezel is also a rare and desirable version, whose scale begins at 200 Units per Hour and not 400 like the majority of the bezels. Rolex Oyster bracelet features solid end links and is full length, with 12 solid 18k gold links, and will comfortably fit up to an 7.75 inch wrist. Old style clasp with the Rolex coronet. Water resistant to 100 meters.
Dial is black with applied hour markers. The word 'Cosmograph' is floating, versus a regular dial where the word 'Cosmograph' is vertically aligned along with the lines of text above it. The word 'Daytona' on this dial is also a more vivid red color than on other 16528 dials. Chronograph totalizer subdials for 30 minutes and 12 hours.
This chronograph carries the Zenith El Primero automatic winding column wheel chronograph beating at 36,600 beats per hour.
Watch is guaranteed 100% original and authentic. ‘R’ serial number dates the watch to 1987 and also denotes its first editionproduction. The Rolex Cosmograph booklet shows the floating Cosmograph dial on the Daytonas. The dial was soon replaced by the non floating version of the dial. Condition is 100% original and in mint/mint+ condition.
