Description
The Patek Philippe reference 2526 is a very important wristwatch because it contains Patek's first automatic winding caliber. The 2526 was introduced to the public in 1953 and production was limited to only 480 watches in yellow gold. The 2526 is also significant because Patek took the occasion of their first automatic winding caliber to also introduce a massive, domed screw on caseback.
The historic significance of this watch, however, is overshadowed by the fact that this particular 2526 features the original black dial, in spectacular condition! While a silver or white dial on a vintage Calatrava is a beautiful sight to behold on any given day, an original gloss black dial on an oversized Calatrava displays almost magical powers; everthing else in it's presence simply disappears... by comparison of course!
Add a couple of little extras, such as the original 18k Patek bracelet, the Extract from the Archives (which mentions the bracelet) and the original black box and you will agree that such a watch comes up for sale very rarely and should be seriously considered, when it does. Blink and it could be gone!
Case is solid 18k yellow gold with dimensions of 35mm diameter by 12mm thick. Bombe acrylic crystal. Once again, the case back is a massive screw down chunk of 18k gold which is designed to prevent water, humidity and dirt intrusion. Case is in mint+ condition.
