The Pro Hunter was the original blackened Rolex watch, and has become very collectable. This is a Submariner Date (Rolex model 16610) Pro Hunter, production of which was limited to 100 pieces. The issue number is engraved on the case back along with “PRO HUNTER”. The Pro Hunter was designed for hunters, and the enclosed “The Pro Hunter Declaration” certificate describes the watch’s history and special features.
I have to say that the quality of the black coating and its “fit and finish” is first rate. Condition is new. Interestingly, in a functionally inspired tribute to the military history of Rolex, the Pro Hunter has fixed lug bars and a canvas military strap. The Pro Hunter is delivered on a strap so a hunter can crawl comfortably and also the strap’s drab color absorbs light, unlike a bracelet that reflects light.
Case measures 40mm diameter by 12.5mm thick. Screw down crown and sapphire crystal provide 100 meters of water resistance.
Black dial has applied luminous hour markers and Mercedes hands with date window at 3 o’clock. “PRO HUNTER” is printed in red text above ‘SUBMARINER’.
Movement is the Rolex automatic winding Caliber 3135 with 31 jewels and is adjusted to 5 positions and temperature. This movement is a C.O.S.C. Certified chronometer.
Olive green canvas strap has blackened keepers and a blackened buckle and is new and original to the watch.
Watch is in new condition and will be delivered with Pro Hunter papers, Rolex papers and Rolex box.
