Description
Drugs and free love weren’t the only good things to emerge from the Summer of Love in 1967… Rolex was pumping out some of their nicest watches ever: the three color Paul Newman Daytonas! Spare the weed and pass the watch, man.
This 6239 3 color Paul Newman is particularly nice, too, with its rare black dial with crisp steps and it’s even got its original papers and box too.
Original stainless steel case measures 37mm diameter by 13.7mm thick. Original stainless steel bezel has engraved “Units per Hour” scale from ‘50’ to ‘200’ and has sharp edges and is clean. Original screw down Rolex crown and pump style chronograph pushers are all working fine. Case is near mint to mint condition. Inside case back is marked ‘6239’.
Original untouched black three color Paul Newman dial has applied black hour markers with adjacent luminous dots, three white subdials which are sunken with concentric guilloche, and original hands in near mint condition. Dial itself is mint. The minutes and seconds chapter, located in the white border area of the outside edge of the dial, is red which is why this dial is known as a three color dial.
Original manual winding Rolex Caliber 722-1 with 17 jewels and adjusted to three positions. This movement features column wheel construction. Movement is clean and running great.
Bracelet is Rolex folded Oyster 7835 with ‘357’ end links, 13 links in length, mint and with negligible stretch.
