ROLEX 1625 DATEJUST THUNDERBIRD 18K

Here is a nice, clean all original condition vintage Rolex Datejust reference 1625 also known as a “Thunderbird”. The Thunderbird moniker comes from the bezel, which is a bi-directional count-up timing device. On these vintage Datejusts, the Thunderbird bezel is rare. Of course, the condition of the bezel means everything. A bezel that has been eroded by hard wear and/or polishing detracts from both the look and value of the watch. The original bezel on this watch is clean and the fine engraving and numerals in relief are perfectly crisp.

The solid 18k gold case is in near mint condition. There are two dings on the left side of the case, with neither being visible when the watch is being worn. The all important Thunderbird bezel is mint. Crystal is acrylic. The screw down crown is operating fine.

The champagne pie-pan dial is original and untouched. Applied golden hour markers. Original hands. Date at 3 o’clock. The dial has a radial brush finish. There is some light spotting, which is expected on a 45 year old original dial.

Original automatic winding Rolex Caliber 1570 with 26 jewels and adjusted to temperature and in 5 positions. This movement is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer and is in immaculate condition.

Inside case back reveals a service history dating back to 1973.

Strap is high quality handmade leather in Italy with authentic Rolex buckle.
