Description
Women ordinarily don’t get to wear complicated watches unless they want to wear a man’s size watch. Patek Philippe put an end to that discrimination with their reference 4858, which they included in the Complicated Watches area of their catalogs.
This 4858G features a solid white gold case with 60 Patek diamonds set into the bezel. The white gold crown has a diamond cabochon. Measurements are 28.5mm diameter by 7.2mm thick. Crystal is sapphire.
Dial is silver with diamond hour markers, center area with guilloche, and subdial for seconds and moonphase cutout. The moonphase display is not just any moonphase display, as one would expect since this is a Patek. The stars are outlined and then filled in with white gold, which flatters the dark blue color of the night sky below. Hands are blackened for legibility.
If you are a watch nerd, which not many ladies are, you will be excited to learn that Patek Philippe uses the Caliber 16-250 PS LU manually winding movement inside this watch and not a quartz movement. The 16-250 PS LU has a highly accurate moonphase display accurate to within one day every 122 years! In other words, after 122 years, the moonphase display on this watch will be off by one day. Further, Patek reports this movement is the smallest mechanical movement ever to qualify for the ultra-prestigious Geneva Seal.
Strap is a sateen Patek strap with signed 18k white gold Patek buckle.
Watch is complete with box, setting stylus and hang tag. Patek discontinued the 4858 and the last published retail price was $21,500. Given how often Patek has increased prices over the past few years, and the rate of their their increases, this watch on their 2011 price list would be in the high $30,000 range. This watch offers great value for the price we are asking.
