Description
Sometimes, Patek Philippe is a riddle wrapped around an enigma encircling a puzzle. I say this because Patek has discontinued the reference 5135, despite it being one of their finest looking watches ever. Review the production of the 5135 and you will find that the rose gold piece is the rarest. It is also, by far, the best looking. In fact, it’s our favorite Patek Philippe annual calendar watch ever.
When introduced, the 5135 made it clear that Patek wanted to do something fresh with the Gondolo line, and they succeeded. Not only is the tonneau case a first for an annual calendar, but the day, date and month windows are all arranged in an arc around the top of the dial, giving this complicated Patek a unique look. This watch wears larger than its dimensions suggest. In my opinion, this was the first in the series of new Patek designs targeting younger customers. This is definitely not a conservatively styled watch - it's bold and exciting.
Movement is the automatic winding Patek Philippe Caliber 324 S with 34 jewels and a 45 hour power reserve. The Geneva Seal is stamped on the movement, made visible by the sapphire display back.
Dial is a very nice two-tone silver color, with the inner-ring featuring concentric circle guilloche; applied rose gold hour markers and the "3" and "9"; beginning from the calendar window near 10 o'clock is the day, date at 12 o'clock, and month near 2 o'clock. Moonphase at 6 o'clock, and there is a 24 hour indicator hand revolving around the moonphase dial. Rose gold dauphine hands.
Case is 18k rose gold, in a hybrid cushion-tonneau shape, with dimensions: 40mm long, by 38mm wide, by 12mm thick (lugs and crown not included). With the extended lugs, this watch wears large. Water resistant to 25 meters.
Strap is fine brown crocodile with an 18k rose gold Patek buckle.
Last published Retail Price is $45,600. Watch is new condition with box, setting stylus and papers. The 5135R is now discontinued and is the rarest 5135 and the most beautiful.
