Description
Unique and insanely cool. These are the two thoughts that entered my mind the first time we saw this watch. The dial is, as far as we know, unique with the double diamonds at 6 o’clock and 9 o’clock, the blued seconds hand and, of course, the blue Stella dial.
Produced only in 18k gold and in platinum, the Day Date over the years has had some very interesting dials. Our favorite dial is the so called Stella dial, which is hard enamel, and usually a vivid color. Stella dials are extremely rare, and are particularly sought after and collected by watch dealers. No two dials are the same as the enamel paint is mixed by hand for each dial. Rolex made Stella dials for the Middle East market. Ironically, the Rolex dealers could not sell the watches with Stella dials and would actually replace the enamel dials with mundane dials. In fact, the majority of Stella dials were destroyed years ago by Rolex as being commercially unviable. Italian collectors, known for their keen eye for style, are nuts about Stella dials. We are pleased to present this watch with absolutely unique and original blue enamel Stella dial with double diamonds!
Original case is solid 18k white gold with original fluted bezel, plastic crystal and screw down crown (working perfectly). The bezel has some marks from wear, but the case is in great condition with full lugs. Dimensions are 35.5mm diameter by 13.3mm thick. Condition is near mint.
Original blue enamel Stella pie pan dial with original diamond hour markers. Normally, Day Date diamond hour marker dials have a baguette diamond at 6 o’clock and 9 o’clock. Instead, this dial has two round diamonds set next to each other in those positions. Full day display at 12 o’clock and date at 3 o’clock. White gold baton hands with a blued seconds hand which I have never seen before. There is some light hazing in the lacquer.
This blue enamel Stella dial and the white gold case play against each other so perfectly, this is a super special watch.
Original automatic winding Rolex Caliber 1556 with 26 jewels and adjusted to temperature and in 5 positions. This C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer movement is in immaculate condition and keeping great time.
Watch will be delivered on a dark blue crocodile strap with Rolex steel tang buckle.
I have been wearing this watch and I have to say it’s my favorite Day Date ever. |
