Description
This vintage Rolex Submariner 6536-1 is in remarkably good and original condition. Everything is very attractive and pleasing. When we examined it, we noticed to our surprise that this is a very rare and unusual watch. Specifically, whereas literally 99.9% of Rolex cases have the model number engraved between the lugs at the 12 o’clock side of the case and the serial number between the lugs on the 6 o’clock side of the case, this watch has the model (6536-1) and serial number position inverted! The case is absolutely, guaranteed 100% original and unaltered.
Original stainless steel case measures 37mm diameter by 12.3mm thick. Original bezel is in mint condition. Original bezel insert is excellent with a few light scratches. Screw down crown operates perfectly. Lugs are thick and muscular with a hint of the original factory beveled edges.
Serial number 398XXX dates this watch to 1958. Inside case back shows date code of ‘IV 58’ along with 6536/1.
Original black gilt dial with rail track/chapter ring. Original hands. In the distant past the luminous was re-applied and has achieved a nice matching patina between the hour markers and the hands. At the top and bottom of the dial, at the very edge, there is some degradation to the paint. Otherwise, the dial is mint and very pleasing to the eye.
Original automatic winding Rolex Caliber 1030 with 25 jewels and adjusted to 5 positions and temperature. The 6536s marked as ‘6536/1’ contain C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer movements, although the dials on these watches made no mention of the Chronometer certification. Movement is running well and the inside case back shows a service history.
Watch will be delivered on new rustic leather strap with steel Rolex buckle.
