Description
This first series Patek Philippe reference 1436 split seconds chronograph belongs in a museum. It’s that nice. Condition is immaculate and 100% original. Originally manufactured in 1946, and preserved in a state of grace ever since, this watch will be the centerpiece of any collection.

Let’s start with the complication: the chronograph has two center mounted blued seconds hands. Both hands sweep in unison once the wearer pushes the top chronograph button. On this first series 1436, the crown itself is the split seconds button, and once pushed during the chronograph’s operation, it splits the seconds hands. The first hand stops, while the second hand keeps moving. This allows the wearer to time to events which start simultaneously – for example, two runners leaving the starting gate and after the first crosses the finish line, the wearer can stop the chronograph for the first runner, while the second seconds hand keeps timing the second runner. Once both timed events conclude, the wearer again presses the crown to reunite the hands. Depressing the top chronograph button stops the hands, and the lower button resets the chronograph functions to their zero positions.

A split seconds chronograph can also be called a “rattrapante” chronographs and “double” chronograph.

Original case is solid 18k gold with domed acrylic crystal. Dimensions are 33mm diameter by 12mm thick. Snap case back. The bezel and top of the lugs are mirror polished, while the case sides are brush finished. Case back and crown are mirror finished. The rectangular chronograph pushers are polished on top and brushed on the sides. The bezel is tall but exceedingly narrow, which creates the pleasing result of wearing the dial. The lugs are likewise narrow. This watch case is mint+ and entirely original.

Dial is original, untouched and exquisite. Silvered with applied golden arabic numerals and hour markers and original golden feuille hands. The two chronograph seconds hands are original and blued. There are two sunken subdials, one for constant seconds and the other for 30 minutes chronograph totalizer. Outer scale is a tachymeter. Dial is mint.

Movement is the manual winding Patek Philippe Caliber 13-130 with 25 jewels and balance adjusted to 8 positions. Movement is immaculately clean and is running fine. The spilt seconds chronograph functions perfectly.

Watch is on modern black Patek Philippe crocodile strap with 18k gold Patek tang buckle.

We are proud to offer this legendary Patek Philippe reference 1436 split seconds chronograph to all collectors.
