Description
The Patek Philippe reference 2526 is a very important wristwatch. Not only does it have an enamel dial, it also contains Patek's first automatic winding movement. The 2526 was introduced to the public in 1953 and production was limited to only 480 watches in yellow gold. The 2526 is also significant because Patek took the occasion of their first automatic winding caliber to also introduce a massive, domed screw on caseback. This watch is from circa 1955.
The original untouched enamel dial is cream colored with applied golden hour markers and gold dauphine hands and subsidiary seconds. The majority of light color Patek dials have black printing for the letters and subsidiary seconds chapter, while this dial has gold printing instead. A subtle difference, but it looks great. The minutes chapter is comprised of embossed gold dots. This dial is 100% original and in perfect condition.
Case is solid 18k yellow gold with dimensions of 35mm diameter by 12mm thick. Bombe acrylic crystal. Once again, the case back is a massive screw down chunk of 18k gold which is designed to prevent water, humidity and dirt intrusion. Case is in mint condition.
Movement is the Patek Philippe automatic winding Caliber 12 - 600 AT with 30 jewels, Gyromax balance, adjusted to heat/cold and 5 positions, free-sprung Breguet balance and stamped with the Geneva Seal. The 18k gold winding rotor is signed with ‘PP 18K’ and ‘PATEK PHILIPPE GENEVE’ and is decorated with barleycorn guilloche. This is Patek Philippe’s first commercially offered automatic winding movement.
Watch is on 18k gold Patek Philippe bracelet which will fit up to a 7.75 inch wrist.
