What a special treat this watch is! It is a very early vintage Calatrava reference 96 from 1938, with original and rare black indelible dial and on original 18k bracelet.
Original solid 18k gold case with 18k snap back with lip, which makes it distinct from the later reference 96 backs and case production. Case is 38.5mm lug tip to lug tip, 30.5mm in diameter and 9.8mm thick.
Original untouched indelible RARE black dial with applied golden hour markers with a double marker at 12 o’clock. The markers are pointed and match the original golden dauphine hands beautifully. Subsidiary seconds display above 6 o’clock with its own chapter, as well as a minutes/seconds chapter in white around the dial’s periphery.
This indelible dial required special artisanry and craftsmanship to produce. The white text and chapter indexes go onto the dial as white enamel and get baked on. The black dial color is also baked on enamel. The baking and painting are repeated until they are perfect and then the dial is hand lacquered. This dial still has its original lacquer, which time has not disturbed or damaged and it is in perfect condition and is never cleaned or untouched.
Original manual winding Patek Philippe Caliber 12’’’120 with 18 jewels and Breguet balance spring. Movement is perfectly clean and mint.
Original bracelet is solid 18k gold and quite long and will easily fit an 8 inch wrist.
This special watch will be delivered with its original Patek Philippe box along with Extract from the Archives.
