Description
Rolex invented the dive watch with its Submariner in 1954. This model 5508 from 1958 is an early, highly collectable watch with its no crown guards case which collectors call the James Bond, in honor of the super spy wearing a no crown guards Submariner in some of his films.
Original stainless steel with screw-down crown operating perfectly. Domed plastic crystal. Original bezel in great condition and turning as it should. Aftermarket bezel insert is clean. Case is very clean and mint condition.
Serial number 361XXX dates production to 1958. Inside case back shows date code of II.58.
Genuine Rolex black replacement dial with desirable chapter ring and nice patina. Dial condition is perfect.
The depth rating for the 5508 is “100m = 330ft” and we have a vintage Rolex brochure that refers to the 5508 as “The Skindiver”, which is very cool!
Original automatic winding Rolex Caliber 1530 with 17 jewels. Movement is clean and running.
Watch is on black Shell Cordovan Nato strap with generic buckle. This is a sensational strap!
