Description
Looking at the collectable Patek Philippe marketplace today, the model 5004 is probably the hottest watch and has been for some time. It’s one of those watches that is rare, outstanding looking, and simply there are more collectors looking to buy than to sell.
The 5004 features a split seconds chronograph (also known as rattrapante or double chronograph) along with a perpetual calendar and moonphase complications. The split seconds chronograph and perpetual calendar are two of the most prestigious complications that a watch can have. Building on that, the 5004 achieves a rare gestalt, where the sum of the parts exceeds the individual components.
Case is solid 18k yellow gold and is 37mm in diameter and 15mm thick. Front and display back sapphire crystals. Chronograph split seconds button is embedded in the winding crown. Pump style chronograph pushers.
Dial is silver with applied golden arabic numerals and leaf or feuille style hands. The day and month are shown in the apertures below 12 o'clock; the 3 o'clock subdial displays the leap year cycle and chronograph 30 minute totalizer; 6 o'clock subdial displays the moonphase and date; 9 o'clock subdial displays constant seconds and 24 hour time.
Movement is the manual winding Patek Philippe Caliber CHR 27-70Q with 28 jewels, 10 bridges, Gyromax balance, beating at 18,000 vibrations per hour, 60 hour power reserve, Breguet balance spring and 407 individual parts. This movement is stamped with the Geneva Seal.
Watch is in like new condition on a brown Patek Philippe crocodile strap with 18k yellow gold Patek deployant clasp. Watch is complete with box, papers, second case back and setting stylus.
