Description
This Patek Philippe with two-tone Sector dial and sweep-seconds hand is the only one of its kind that we've seen. By far our best recent acquisition. It was purchased by its original owner from America's oldest fine jeweler - established in 1810 and still in business today: Black, Starr, and Gorham (later Frost). Purchased by Naval Commander Gilbert C. Fonda as a gift for himself - two months and ten days after World War II ended - for Christmas 1945 and so recorded on the case back along with Commander Fonda's signature. No doubt this distinguished gentleman was celebrating the end of the war, a Christmas which was no doubt his sweetest, after returning home to his hometown of Orange, New Jersey upon the conclusion of WWII.
