Description
My very first Rolex watch was a 1603 Datejust. It came in a FedEx package one beautiful spring day in Boston. I didn’t know it then, that I would go on to be a watch dealer. So, who knows what the future holds when someone receives this 1603 in a FedEx box?
Original stainless steel case has 35.5mm diameter and is 11.5mm thick. The steel engine turned bezel is crisp and mint, as is the plastic crystal. The original Jubilee bracelet has a light stretch, but is very clean and mint. I saved the best for last: the pie-pan dial is unusual and unusually striking. It started out as silver but has lightened with age to a pearlescent white color (silver dials usually develop a champagne color patina). Dial has applied hour markers and original hands, and of course the date at 3 o’clock under the famous Rolex Cyclops magnifier.
Movement in this watch is the remarkable Rolex automatic winding Caliber 1570 with 26 jewels, easily the most durable and accurate serially manufactured automatic caliber from any manufacturer ever. Movement is pristine and running and is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer.
This vintage Datejust has original box and papers, which is as unusual and it is fortunate!
