Description
The 1970s were a decade of new ideas. Some were better ideas than others. Many of the watches from the 1970s share similar characteristics, the best being that the wristwatches started being large. So it is with this rare Jumbo Ellipse with automatic movement.
Original oversized 18k gold Ellipse case with sapphire crystal and lugs, with dimensions of 36.5mm wide by 41.5mm long including the lugs by 7.3mm thick. If you look carefully at the case, you will notice it has no crown at 3 o’clock like 99.9999% of watches. Instead, this is a so-called back winder, because the crown is flat and mounted to the back of the case.
Original gold champagne dial with applied golden hour markers and golden baton hands. Both the hour markers and hands have black inlays. Sweep center seconds.
Original automatic winding Patek Philippe Caliber 1-350 with 28 jewels; adjusted to heat, cold, isochronism and in 5 positions; and stamped with the Geneva Seal. Winding rotor is gold for increased mass and winding efficiency.
Strap is unworn hand-sewn Patek Philippe brown crocodile.
