Description
The 1999 reintroduction of Breguet's famous Transatlantique was a big success. Vintage collectors knew about the original, early 20th Century Breguet Transatlantique, but the watches were impossible to find. Now all of a sudden a brand new version became available with the same great styling as its predecessor. The Type XX pilot's watches are Breguet's most popular model.
The Breguet Transatlantique is powered by the high-end Lemania caliber 1352. Automatic winding, integrated chronograph caliber, hand-adjusted with date.
Dial is a deep, matte black with luminous hands, arabic numerals and hour markers. Interestingly, the minutes totalizer for the chronograph is laid out in 2 minute divisions, and counts up to 30 minutes. The 12 hour totalizer is at 6 o'clock. Bezel turns to track elapsed time (bi-directional).
The case is the highlight of this watch for me. The case sides feature vertical channelling, the sapphire crystal is domed. Water resistant to 100 meters. Fit and finish are exemplary. The steel is polished so adroitly, that the case looks like white gold. Deployant buckle is fitted to the fine leather strap. Serial number is engraved on the caseback. 39mm diameter by 14mm thick.
