Description
Here is one of those rare museum quality wristwatches, where everything is the most desirable and in the best all-original condition. This is a spectacular vintage GMT and will make its next owner very happy indeed.
An identical watch only a few serial numbers apart is featured on page 116 and 117 in the Mondani/Ravagnani ROLEX GMT-MASTER book. The authors say about the dial “Again a GMT-MASTER with ref. 1675, where it is possible to admire a dial, which considering the year of production, could be a prototype.”
In fact, this original untouched dial has several unusual characteristics along with its already desirable gilt writing. First, the underline beneath OFFICIALLY CERTIFIED was Rolex’s code to show that the luminous used on the dial was not radioactive. Further, the minute hash marks are longer than on later dials. There is no dash/hyphen ‘-‘ between OYSTER and PERPETUAL. The luminous hour markers are larger than normal and located slightly more to the center of the dial.
Hands are original and mint, as is the dial.
Unpolished original case with pointed crown guards is stainless steel, with original bezel turning as it should, faded red and blue bezel insert, and plastic crystal. Original screw down crown operating as it should. Dimensions are 40mm diameter by 12.5mm thick. Serial number 874XXX dates watch to 1962. Date code on inside case back is IV.63.
Original automatic winding Rolex Caliber 1560 with 25 jewels and adjusted to temperature and in 5 positions. Movement is clean and running and is a C.O.S.C. Certified Chronometer.
Bracelet is riveted Rolex Oyster in near mint condition with light stretch.
This vintage Rolex GMT Master 1675 with pointed crown guards and prototype dial is a museum-quality collector’s piece.
