Description
Patek Philippe makes very few stainless steel wristwatches outside of the Nautilus and Aquanaut sports models. That has been true throughout the fabled history of the world's finest manufacture, and it remains true to this day. In fact, the reference 5085 has been discontinued for some time.
This watch features a pleasingly robust polished stainless steel watch case and bracelet, in the "beads of rice" style, and a very cleanly designed black dial. Legibility of all functions is very good, given the bright white hands and numerals against the matte black background. Case dimensions are 39mm diameter by 9mm thick. Caseback is screwdown and has a sapphire display crystal. Front crystal is sapphire.
Caliber is the PP 240/164 with 22k gold micro-rotor construction, 29 jewels, self-compensating free-sprung flat balance-spring, and stamped with the Geneva Seal.
Dial displays moonphase and date at 7 o'clock, power reserve at 10 o'clock and constant seconds at 4 o'clock. Hands are coated with tritium for night time legibility.
This Patek Philippe is a perfect daily timepiece, especially so with the bracelet, which makes it equally appropriate for warm climates and cold environs.
