Description
Pro Hunter was the original designer and producer of black case Rolex watches. This 2009 limited edition of Pro Hunter Military Submariners is a limited edition. Pro Hunter watches are well respected and do very well at watch auctions. Rolex collectors know about the very rare military Submariners, which are designed to exact specifications by the military department issuing them.
Pro Hunter used the military specifications to inspire this watch: matte finish in this instance not only matte but matte black, fixed spring bars, military style hands which Pro Hunter calls Gladiator hands, carbon fiber bezel insert with a hash mark for each minute (whereas normal Submariners only have the one minute markings up to the 15 minute mark), and tan NATO strap.
The Rolex Submariner traces its proud heritage back to illustrious models like the reference 6204, the 6538 and the 5508 (aka "James Bond" models) and the 5513. What they all had in common was that they did not have a date display. As the years went by, the Submariner kept being built for divers, but it crossed over to the masses, many of whom needed a date display on their watches. The original Submariner "look" was partially diluted (pun intended) in the name of necessity. Not so this Submariner reference 14060M, which harkens back to the earliest Submariner models.
The case is 40mm in diameter with a sapphire crystal and screw down crown. Case is water resistant to 1000 feet or 300 meters. Bezel turns counter-clockwise only and serves as a dive (or anything else) timer counting up to 60 minutes of elapsed time.
Dial is black and customized by Pro Hunter as a Military Submariner homage with the famous encircled âTâ and the oversized hands. Dial also features applied luminous hour markers and is signed ROLEX OYSTER PERPETUAL PROHUNTER.
Movement is the automatic winding Rolex Caliber 3130 with 31 jewels.
Original tan NATO strap in unworn condition.
This 2009 Prohunter Military Submariner limited edition sold out upon its introduction and it is very unusual to see one offered for sale. This watch is complete with the Rolex box and Prohunter papers.
